Aegires pruvotfolae is characterized by its yellow colour.
It ranges in colour from pale, almost translucent white, to a deep yellow
depending on the colour of the sponge on which it is feeding.
It was first described by Pruvot-Fol in 1930 and named Aegires citrinus.
I'm following the recent paper: Fahey S.J. & T.M. Gosliner. 2004. A Phylogenetic Analysis of the Aegiridae
Fischer, 1883 (Mollusca, Nudibranchia, Phanerobranchia) with Descriptions
of Eight New Species and a Reassessment of Phanerobranch Relationships.
Proceedings of the California Academy of Sciences 55 (34): 613-689, 82
figs., 4 tables. and place the genus Notodoris into Aegires,
so the name Aegires citrinus is occupied by the old Notodoris citrina,
this causes the new name for this species.
These specimens were identified by Terrence M. Gosliner.
Aegires pruvotfolae is very similar to Aegires sp. 05, which has a far more elogate body.
