Halgerda okinawa Carlson & Hoff, 2000

This recently described (Carlson & Hoff, 2000) species of Halgerda is relatively large,
growing to at least 125mm long. It has the typical mantle ridges and depressions of
most members of the genus. Apparently unique to this species, the yellow pigment
on the tubercles is not just a surface pigment but is incorporated in the tissue right
to the core of the tubercles. Halgerda okinawa looks like a coulour variant of
Halgerda willeyi, but this one has translucent
rhinophores and gills with black markings, Halgerda okinawa has orange
rhinophores with a black posterior midline of the rhinophore clubs. The gills are
translucent orange with black spots.
