Sagaminopteron ornatum is characterized by its bright and colourful colour pattern. The dorsum and the parapodia are violet or pale violet, both the siphon and the flagellum are bright orange/red. In some specimens the parapodia have a white marginal band.
When disturbed Sagaminopteron ornatum can vigorously flap the greatly enlarged parapodia and swim for some minutes.
